Warplanes Raid Ancient City of Palmyra

Syrian warplanes carried out airstrikes on Palmyra on June 20 and 21, reportedly striking several civilian targets, according to activist reports, some of which say at least 75 strikes hit the city over a three-day period. The raids came after the seizure of the ancient city in May 2015 by Islamic State militants. Reports on June 22 said that the group was laying explosives around historic sites in the city.
