Arachnophobes, look away now.

A video posted online shows a spider appearing to 'explode' into hundreds of glittering green spiderlings - enough to give anyone the creeps.

It's not quite what it seems, though - the spider actually moves out of shot, rather than exploding.

The spiderlings are all too real, though - and the green glow is thought to be their eyes glittering in the light.

The video is shot in an unknown location, so it's not clear exactly what species the spider is.

Common Australian species such as wolf spiders are known to carry spiderlings on their backs for some time after birth - so the one here might well be a wolf spider.
