Wildfire Approaches Homes Near Cape Town

Evacuations were in place for areas near Cape Town in South Africa on January 31, as an out-of-control fire continued for a third day in the area.

Authorities had ordered the evacuation of the entire town of Pringle Bay on Tuesday, according to news reports.

Residents were later allowed to return to their homes, but further evacuations were ordered on January 31 for “households in Betty’s Bay”.

Footage posted to X by Johann Els shows the blaze getting close to houses in Pringle Bay.

“Pringle Bay fire is getting worse. Serious situation now as property is in danger. We request your prayers now!” Els wrote on X.

Councillor Clinton Lerm issued an update on Wednesday, saying the fire was still out of control and that more crews would be deployed. Credit: Johann Els via Storyful
