You Should Restart Your PC Right Now - Here’s Why

Putting it to sleep doesn’t cut the mustard

Unlike humans, sleep isn’t enough to recharge your computer - it needs to be switched on and off, according to an American tech author.

Tech author Sharon Profis says that many of us use ‘Sleep Mode’ - where you simply close a laptop - almost by accident, meaning we haven't actually restarted our PCs or Macs in ages

That’s bad news.

Profis says in a CNET video guide, ‘What happens next is worse than you might imagine. First there are memory leaks. Programmes you clicked weeks ago still hog precious memory, preventing new programmes from working properly.

‘Then your Wi-Fi starts to act weird, drivers crash, pick-ups happen, and before you know it, you can’t connect to the internet.

‘Putting your computer to sleep isn’t the solution. With the RAM still running, those memory leaks will still happen.

‘Restarting your computer is a magical way to clear all of those build-ups, wipe the slate clean and make your computer feel a little newer.
