‘You Ain’t No Muslim, Bruv’ Trends On Twitter After London ‘Terrorist’ Slashing

A very British response

Londoners are standing together on social media with a hashtag - #YouAin’tNoMuslimBruv offering a very British response to the ‘terrorist’ slashing attack in Leytonstone.

The phrase - yelled by a bystander as the attacker was tasered by police - has even found its way onto TFL noticeboards in the wake of the attack.

Video recorded during the attack shows commuters shouting at the attacker, with one man shouting, ‘You ain’t no Muslim, bruv! You ain’t no Muslim!’

The religion of the attacker is still unknown, as are his motives, although he shouted, ‘This is for Syria,’ and ‘All your blood will be spilled,’ during the assault.

It’s not clear who captured the footage, but the phrase has trended on social media - an antidote to Islamophobic responses to the attack.

The Met Police said it is investigating the attack as a ‘terrorist incident’, and that the terror alert level remains high in London.

The Met's head of Counter Terrorism Command, Commander Richard Walton, said: ‘I would urge the public to remain calm, but alert and vigilant. The threat from terrorism remains at severe, which means that a terrorist attack is highly likely.’
