The 1% Club 'scrapped' by ITV as Lee Mack show taken off air

Fans of the hit game show The 1% Club are set for disappointment this weekend as the programme has been 'scrapped' from Saturday night's listings.

Despite there being plenty of episodes left in the new series, the popular ITV show will not be airing this weekend. The 1% Club, hosted by Southport comedian and actor Lee Mack, sees members of the public tackle a series of challenging brain teasers in a bid to make it to the final with millions of viewers at home seizing the opportunity to play along from the comfort of their sofa.

It has been a consistent ratings winner since its return for a third series earlier this year. However, it seems ITV execs are keen to avoid a ratings clash with the Eurovision Song Contest, which is set to air on the BBC at the same time, ChronicleLive reports.

Instead, viewers will be treated to Bond film Casino Royale. Unlike Britain's Got Talent, which has been postponed to Sunday evening, there is no slot for The 1% Club in this weekend's schedule, with Deal or No Deal and thriller Red Eye filling the gaps either side of BGT.

There was a tragic end to the latest instalment of The 1% Cub at the weekend, when, after he thoroughly entertained presenter Lee with the story of how he nearly landed a major role in a Hollywood movie, it was revealed that contestant Stephen Wong had passed away after filming.

Right at the end of the closing credits the words 'In memory of Steven Wong. 1972-2024' appeared on screen. Reacting to the news and the tribute to Steven, one viewer took to X to write: "Very sad to hear about Steven Wong. Thoughts are with his family" as another wrote: "RIP Steven Wong"
