Viewers were quick to offer their condolences after The 1% Club announced that one of Saturday night's contestants, Steven Wong, had died after filming. And the tribute to Steven came minutes after he'd entertained host Lee Mack with the tale of how he very nearly landed a starring role in a major Hollywood movie.

A huge ratings winner for ITV since its launch a few years ago, The 1% Club continued its latest series this weekend, airing right after the latest episode of Britain's Got Talent. As ever, comedian Lee was in charge as a new batch of hopefuls aimed to answer all of the questions correctly to be in with a chance of landing a big money prize.

One of those in contention to take home some cash this time round was Steven, who, while telling presenter Lee that he worked for a utility company, actually had a much more revealing tale to tell, when he opened up on his brush with film stardom. Teasing the story by first explaining that his parents had signed him up for an audition, Steven then continued by explaining that he had actually got down to the final two for a starring role in a film and not just in any film either, but world renowned blockbuster Indiana Jones & the Temple of Doom.

Steven's reply to a fairly innocuous question about what he did for a living left Lee in shock, with viewers at home also quick to react to his revelation. So it came with real sadness that Steven's death was revealed right at the end of the closing credits on Saturday, with the words 'In memory of Steven Wong. 1972-2024' appearing on screen.

Reacting to the news and the tribute to Steven, one viewer took to X to write: "Very sad to hear about Steven Wong. Thoughts are with his family" as another wrote: "RIP Steven Wong"
