With summer here and the weather not too bad in recent weeks, we will all be hoping to spend lots of time in the garden. But if your lawn isn’t looking as luscious and green as you want and you are a dog owner, your four-legged friend could be the culprit.

Lawn experts Prestige Lawns have weighed in and explained how to deal with dog urine patches and how to get your lawn back to looking thick and green for as little as £1.

How to repair dog urine patches on lawns

Water the area

Immediately after you notice your dog has urinated on the lawn, try and water the area thoroughly to dilute the urine to prevent it from burning the grass.

Rake and remove dead grass

Once the area has dried, use a rake to remove any dead grass from the area, to create a clean slate for new grass to grow.

Apply grass seed

Apply a generous amount of grass seed to the affected area. Cover the seed with a layer of topsoil or compost to help it take proper root. Water the seeds gently with a watering can, being careful not to drown the seeds. These can be bought for as little as £1 and make a huge difference to struggling lawns.

Tread carefully

Try to not walk on the affected area for a few weeks and keep your dog away from the area to let it heal and grow. This time will help your grass to grow back and cover the area that was previously affected.
