The recipe for a standout soap couple requires a few key ingredients – sizzling chemistry, passion, excitement and loads of potential. When you get the combination just right, it's a winner!

We've got a few such couples on our radar right now – some of them are already an item, and while we've been loving what we've seen so far, we want to explore their relationships even further.

Other duos are still yet to get it on, but you just know it won't be long before they give into temptation. Wanna know who we're shipping these days? Here's our current top 10 – see if you agree!

1. Ben and Johnny in EastEnders

Step aside Robron, it's all about Ben and Johnny now, or should we say "Benny". We've wasted so long wondering whether the whole Johnny and Steven Beale thing was ever going to happen that we've failed to realise the cute Carter is actually way more suited to Ben.

Their steamy session under the sheets at Ben's 21st had the fans going crazy, but it looks like that's all the action they're getting for now, with both boys insisting it was strictly a one-off. Whatevs! We give it a matter of weeks before they're getting jiggy again.

We don't reckon trainee-lawyer Johnny's tutors would think much of him going out with a convicted killer, mind...

2. Harriet and Cain in Emmerdale

Emmerdale boss Iain MacLeod promised he'd surprise us all with a new unlikely couple in the Dales, but was it bad boy Cain and a certain village vicar he was talking about by chance? Everyone knows Cain really should be with Moira, but with a reconciliation looking increasingly unlikely (boo!), is his head about to be turned by a woman of the cloth? It would be the talk of the Woolie.

Cain might pretend he doesn't think much of Harriet, and vice versa, but we all know what that means – they totally fancy each other. If they do end up in bed, we're intrigued to see how this one pans out. Cain likes a feisty woman, and Harriet definitely takes no nonsense, but would she really be able to put up with such a serial sinner? Maybe just for the sex, eh?

3. Tyler and Piper in Neighbours

These two might not have Terese on their side, but we're totally team Typer. Their forbidden affair got the heat rising in Ramsay Street, but things have cooled a bit recently. The couple have been forced to live at the Erinsborough Backpackers on very little dosh just so they can carry on seeing each other.

Their storyline hasn't really moved on for a few weeks, but with signs that Terese and Brad are starting to accept the fact their daughter is determined to stay together with the hunky Brennan brother, there might be happier times ahead for Piper and Tyler. Who knows? They might even both move into Terese's and be one big happy family. Stranger things have happened...

4. Maxine and Adam in Hollyoaks

After suffering from years of abuse at the hands of evil Patrick, Maxine's luck with fellas finally changed when she got together with Adam. Grace's brother has brought her old Minniver sparkle back – he's protective without being possessive, and we were over the moon when he popped the question.

But just as we were choosing which hat to wear for the big day, Adam's former fiancée Darcy returned from the dead to reclaim her man. She's already shamelessly snogged Adam, and isn't going to back down easily.

With Maxine unprepared to be Adam's consolation prize, there's currently a massive question mark hanging over the couple's future. But we're hoping Adam and Max can weather storm Darcy and emerge from the whole mess stronger than ever. In your face, blondie!

5. Todd and Billy in Coronation Street

Todd and Billy were one of the biggest surprises of 2016. On paper, it definitely shouldn't work – lovely Billy's the eternal good Samaritan with a heart of gold, and Todd's... well, a bit of a nasty bastard, whose pasttimes include blackmail and intimidation. But against all the odds, they've stayed together, and are hands down one of our fave couples on the cobbles, in fact scrap that – in all of Soapland!

The only downside is that things have been pretty quiet on the storyline front for the lovers, and the fans are getting increasingly frustrated. They want to see much more of Todd and Billy, and so do we. Word on the street is that's all about to change, and with the promise of some juicy plots in the pipeline, we can't wait to see what dramas lie ahead for the pair.

6. Denise and Kush in EastEnders

Oi, Kush and Dee! Stop teasing us and get together already, would you? We are totally crushing on this would-be couple, for so many reasons. Obviously their chemistry is hot and on point, but it's great to watch Denise in the driving seat, calling the shots and lapping up the attention from the sexy stallholder. She knows Kush wants her, and the feeling is mutual.

Both Kush and Denise have been through the mill with messy and tragic relationships, but we have a feeling they could make each other genuinely happy. Kush is just the kind of easy-going boyf that Dee needs, and she'd be the envy of all the women of Walford having him on her arm (and in her bed). They just need to overcome a little obstacle called Carmel.

7. Esther and Grace in Hollyoaks

Okay, we admit it. When Grace first made a move on Esther, we thought she was just doing it 'cause she was sick of men and she saw Esther as a bit of an experiment, but it turns out she really does love her. She even killed for her, for God sake. Grace may be dangerous, but actually we'd say she was a safer bet for Esther than crazy Kim, who's way too unpredictable.

With Grace, Esther would have security and a ready-made family with cutie Curtis. There's a distinct lack of great lesbian couples in soap right now, so even more reason for Grace to get her girl. Come on 'Oaks, make it happen, you know you want to!

8. Lauren and Josh in EastEnders

We're bored senseless by Lauren and Steven's dull relationship (what young couple would want to stay home and play monopoly with Ian Beale every night?), and don't blame her one bit for being tempted by city slicker Josh. Although we're pretty sure there's lots more to the glasses-wearing geek than meets the eye – anyone involved with Max immediately falls under suspicion these days.

No doubt Josh will turn out to be a wrong'un, and the whole thing will end in tears, but right now, who cares? It's the most excitement Lauren has had in months and she's at her sassy best when she's behaving recklessly. We don't think it's going to take much persuasion for her to do the dirty on Steven either. Once a cheater, always a cheater and all that.

9. Cathy and Brian in Coronation Street

Call us old-fashioned, but there's something so adorable about bumbling Brian's crush on Cathy. The former teacher has been growing increasingly smitten with Roy's former fiancée in recent weeks, and we think the time has come for Bri to make his move.

Cathy is ready for a new relationship after her sad split from Roy, and she's already admitted to Yasmeen that she finds Brian attractive. But if the pair did take the plunge and got to know one another a whole lot better, how would Roy feel about it? Things would be a bit awks between the trio, but even Roy must realise you're never too old to need some loving.

10. Ste and Harry in Hollyoaks

Starry topped our Best Ship poll back in December, and despite their current relationship status of "it's beyond complicated", we're still fans of Chester's most-talked about couple. But if the lads are going to stand a chance of going the distance, they both need to learn a few lessons. Selfish Ste has got to understand that when the going gets tough he can't just go and shag another guy and expect Harry to be cool with it.

And if Harry hasn't already twigged, life is always going to be unpredictable with a livewire like Ste. He'll never tame the hot-headed Hay, but if he accepts his flaws, then maybe they'll find some sort of happy balance. All they really need to know is they're better off together than apart.
