13 things you'll remember if you partied at the Krazyhouse

In the early 1990s, The Krazyhouse on Wood Street burst onto the city centre scene.

Affectionately known as the K! to loyal clubbers, the club became famous for its indie, rock and alternative scene and it was also synonymous with Liverpool students. Boasting three floors with different genres of music on each one, it was also loved for its quirky feature pieces and drink deals.

But in 2018, the closure of the nightclub was lamented by many as the end of an era. Even those who hadn't been to the K in years felt a little wave of sadness to learnt their favourite night out would be no longer, the ECHO previously reported.

But although the Krazyhouse itself has now shut its doors - it was not to be lost forever. The same year of its closure, the venue reopened as Electrik and through the years has hosted Krazyhouse reunion nights.

To reminisce, we've taken another look back at 13 things you'll remember if you partied at the Krazyhouse. This list isn't intended to be comprehensive, but you can share your memories of the Krazyhouse in the comments section below.

13. Sticky floors

Sure, many clubs have a certain layer of gluey grime underfoot, but the Krazyhouse took it to another level. One minute you could be moshing to Nirvana and the next you could be hopping around, shoeless looking for your lost footwear that had become cemented to the gloop below.

12. Just how classy you feel drinking Faustini

For many, the Krazyhouse ignites memories of Fautini. It may have been cheaper than cheap fizz - and many will remember it costing something like a fiver for a whole 500ml bottle.

11. That weird Red Stripe drink deal

Amongst the drink offers at the Krazyhouse was the Red Stripe deal. It meant you had to buy three cans to take away all at once and if you weren't sharing them out, you'd be stuck holding them all on the dancefloor.

10. Unexpected dancefloor fillers

If you were a Krazyhouse regular, one song would have crowds heading straight to the dancefloor. Nothing filled the top floor quite like the Happy Days theme tune.

9. Drunkenly watching 80s cartoons

Years ago, Krazyhouse would have a TV screen, but it wasn't showing what you expected. Oddly, Thundercats and He-Man always seemed to be playing.

8. The little food hatch

For clubbers of today, something like this would be an absolute dream. The little food hatch at Krazyhouse is well remembered for their chips, which many swear were microwaved.

7. Creme Eggs at 2am

Back in the day, booze wasn't the only thing clubbers could buy. The bar also sold ice pops and even Creme Eggs.

6. Macarena dancing to Nine Inch Nails

Way back when, signature dances made it to the dancefloor - but not quite in this fashion. It would make a great Tik Tok today though.

5. Random injuries

Krazyhouse was definitely more than just bars and dancefloors. Occasionally, you'd hurt your hand on the punch bag machine or spend a fortune trying to drunkenly crack the impossible Crystal Maze arcade game.

4. Selfies with a Bill Bailey look-a-like

This guy was a Krazyhouse regular. They used to do a shout out from the DJ booth announcing a 'special guest' was there and people would always try to get photos with him.

3. Bizarre art

The rhino statue on the third floor - what was that all about? Over the years, it definitely became part of the furniture and featured in many night out photos, likely taken on digital cameras.

2. You can never pocket enough loo roll

Like many nightclubs, you had to be quick if you didn't bring your own. If you didn't stuff some in your bag by midnight, there'd be none left for the rest of the night.

1. Surreal Thomas the Tank Engine flashbacks

The lights would always come on at the end of the night and the last song was often not what you'd expect. Sometimes it would be the Thomas the Tank theme tune or another TV show.
