The 15 most ridiculous moments in Transformers 5

From Digital Spy

Even the most ardent Transformers fan will admit that the movies have their fair share of ridiculous moments.

You know, like that time in Age of Extinction when Mark Wahlberg's Cade Yeager hits the ground in super slow motion in sheer frustration. Or that time way back in the first movie where Josh Duhamel's William Lennox tells Shia LaBeouf's Sam Witwicky, "You're a soldier now".

So it's no surprise that The Last Knight – which we actually had fun with – has its own batch of utterly RIDICULOUS moments.

And even dismissing the intentional attempts at humour, mostly from Anthony Hopkins's Sir Edmund Burton and his robot ninja butler Cogman, we have still managed to come up with these gems which, naturally, contain some major spoilers.

1. Stanley Tucci's drunk Merlin

Rather than reprise his role as KSI head Joshua Joyce, Stanley Tucci pops up in the Dark Ages-set prologue as none other than Merlin. But not just any Merlin, Tucci's scenery-chewing take is a "sozzled" Brit wizard who loves the ladies.

Weirdly, the movie sets up the fact that there's a modern-day descendant of Merlin, only it's not Joyce, but Laura Haddock's Viviane Wembley. Oh well, at least it looks like Tucci is having a blast.

2. Izabella facing down Megatron

Really, this could have been any scene with Izabella (Isabela Moner), but the fact a 14-year-old is happy to face down Megatron – who does nothing about it – in an early scene is the most eye-rolling.

Yes, even more than the finale seeing her undertake a skydive from a falling alien ship like it was no big deal. We get it, she's meant to be a badass, but COME ON.

3. Megatron's Squad

For reasons we're still trying to work out, the army – or, more specifically, the Transformers Reaction Force (TRF) – makes a deal with Megatron, which sees some of the worst Decepticons released from prison.

And if it wasn't Suicide Squad enough, each is introduced with a freeze-frame as their name appears on screen. Oh, and most of them are destroyed by the end of the next scene so, really, what was the point?

4. Cade's daughter

Poor Nicola Peltz. Cade may be back in The Last Knight, but his daughter Tessa is reduced to a voice cameo. With Cade hiding from the government, we're told he can phone Tessa for 20 seconds, only he can't speak because they can track that, or something. Fortunately, this leads to some peak face acting as Wahlberg just looks so PAINED as how UNFAIR everything is. Glorious.

5. Creepy texts

Talking of Cade's daughter, we see Cade send her a couple of texts before he heads into the final battle. Only problem is that he doesn't have a phone, so he borrows someone else's to send them. One of them reads "I'm there for you", but he neglects to put his name on them. So, we imagine Tessa was thrilled to receive an anonymous text like that. Not creepy at all.

6. Bumblebee the Nazi hunter

You remember all that criticism about Bay draping Blenheim Palace in Nazi flags? It was all for a totally pointless scene.

As Sir Edmund tells Cade and Viviane about the "secret history of Transformers", we find out that Bumblebee helped in the fight against the Nazis and because dialogue isn't enough, we get a brief spurt of action of some Bumblebee-on-Nazi action. So, he wasn't just waiting around for Shia all those years…

7. Psychic Transformers

In the quest to find Merlin's staff that'll save the day, Cade and Viviane find themselves on a submarine to find the Knights' ship, naturally. They only find this out from Viviane delving into her father's past and yet, Optimus Prime gets to them within seconds of them finding the staff, not to mention Megatron showing up shortly after.

Who needs buried family secrets when you've clearly got psychic abilities, or a really good Find My Staff app?

8. Sir Edmund pops by 10 Downing St

While everyone else is on a staff hunt, Sir Edmund is trying to warn everyone of the impending apocalypse. This includes casually strolling up to the door of 10 Downing Street to speak to the PM which, you know, can't actually happen in real life. Security sends him away but, never mind, he then goes and uses a secret door that leads him straight into the PM's office. Yes, really.

9. Excalibur

Move over David Beckham, we have a new best worst Excalibur moment of 2017. Early on, Cade is given some sort of metallic talisman by a dying Autobot, which later transforms into the Excalibur sword as Cade tries to stop the Cybertronian Knights killing Optimus Prime. Cue a super slow motion scene of Cade posing with the sword, only for it to disappear when we next cut to Cade, and never appear again.

10. Bumblebee's Martha moment

With Optimus Prime brainwashed by his creator Quintessa, he has a brawl with Bumblebee and looks set to kill him. But, wait, Bumblebee remembers Batman v Superman and tries to make Optimus remember him by speaking for the first time.

He doesn't even have to use his mother's name before Optimus – after being bad for about five minutes – remembers who he is. Talking of which...

11. "I am Optimus Prime"

Our biggest issue with The Last Knight is that Optimus Prime is barely in it. He even disappears for a bit during the big final battle for some unknown reason.

Perhaps worried everyone will forget who he is, Optimus proclaims in almost every scene he's in that "I am Optimus Prime". Sure, it's a cool name, but you've saved the world five times now, so everyone knows who you are. You're not Groot, dude.

12. TRF switch sides

Remember that joyous moment in Fast Five when The Rock changed sides? This is nothing like that. The TRF are set up as being terrible bastards, hating every Transformer around. Obviously, they soon realise there are good and bad Transformers and team up with Cade and the Autobots to save the world.

Just stating this isn't enough, mind. Instead they heroically rip off their TRF badges and throw them on the floor. Chills.

13. Exploding planes? NBD

There are several moments you could pick out where the characters would actually suffer serious injuries, but the biggest comes in the climax. Here, Cade, Viviane and co are on planes that literally crash onto the alien ship, Bayhem explosions included.

They just dust that off though and get on with their business, but spare a thought for Cade's pristine white t-shirt which gets a bit ripped apart.

14. Weightlessness tag team

Imagine the situation. You're on an alien ship that is rapidly falling to Earth, so fast that you're weightless. You'd just be screaming for your life, right? Not Cade and Viviane, who use their skills of inventor and professor, respectively, to somehow do a zero gravity tag team to swing Viviane to the staff.

Oh, and she manages to land feet first upside-down. Next step, gymnastic gold at Tokyo 2020.

15. "Is it tomorrow yet?"

Their kiss that comes out of nowhere is bad enough, although this stands out more. In what is meant to be a cute callback, Viviane asks Cade "is it tomorrow yet?" after they both save the world. It's a reference to a conversation Cade says he always has with his daughter. The only problem is that we didn't see him tell Viviane in the movie, he was telling Izabella. Whoops.

Transformers: The Last Knight is in cinemas now.
