£2.8 million eco-friendly upgrade for Glasgow easyHotel

EasyHotel has completed a £2.8m refurbishment of its Glasgow city centre hotel, including a complete upgrade of the energy system, low-carbon room design and refreshed communal areas.

The upgrades are expected to drive down carbon emissions by around 38%.

All 125 bedrooms now feature sustainably-sourced timber and wallpaper made from recycled materials.

The energy infrastructure of the building was a focus of the refurbishment, with gas boilers replaced by air source heat pumps, upgraded mechanical units providing thermal benefits, the installation of solar panels and new energy efficient air condition systems.

The refurbishment is part of a wider £6m investment to reduce the group’s overall CO2 emissions across its older hotels in the UK, France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Spain. In total, carbon emissions should be cut by 25%, bringing easyHotel up to 10 years ahead of CRREM targets.

The Glasgow site opened in 2014, following its hotel on Princess Street in Edinburgh during 2010.

Karim Malak, chief executive of easyHotel, commented: “The completion of our Glasgow refurbishment demonstrates easyHotel’s commitment to offering low-carbon rooms that not only deliver exceptional value for our guests, but also meet the growing demand for more sustainable hotels.

“Besides the hotel looking fantastic, the savings made in carbon helps us in keeping our prices low as we focus on taking the lead in great-value, low-carbon hotels across Europe.”

The completed refurbishment comes on the back of its 2023 revenue more than doubling year-on-year, with total sales surpassing £100m for the first time.
