Co-op has moved into its new purpose-built Ashley Down store on Gloucester Road. The opening has also created 20 new jobs.

The 7,000 square foot store opened its doors on Friday June 28 and includes parcel collection services through DPD, a Costa Coffee Express, hot food, an in-store bakery and the home delivery of groceries via Deliveroo, Just Eat and Uber Eats. There is also customer parking and a free cash machine.

Marlon Ritchie, Co-op Store Manager, said: “We have had a great response. The whole team is delighted to launch our new store. It looks fantastic, and we are enjoying welcoming our members and customers into their brand-new Co-op. Our aim is to operate at the heart of local life and we have worked to develop the range, choice and added services to create a compelling offer to serve our community conveniently.

"The store also has a focus on delivering value, with member price savings across a wide range of everyday essentials, fruit and veg and groceries so that the people who own our business, our member-owners, benefit every time they shop.”

An on-site soft plastic recycle unit is available for customers to recycle ‘soft plastics’ such as crisp packets, bread bags, lids from ready meals, yogurt pots, biscuit wrappers and pet food pouches. This ensures that all Co-op’s own food packaging is recyclable either through local authority kerbside collections, or the in-store recycling unit.
