Created by Sam Levinson, Abel Tesfaye (a.k.a. The Weeknd), and Reza Fahim, HBO’s The Idol told the story of a struggling popstar who gets intertwined with a cult of talented musicians. Led by Tedros (played by Tesfaye), this cult is made up of characters like Jenna (Melanie Liburd), Chloe (Suzanna Son), and Izaak (Moses Sumney).
Prior to The Idol, Sumney was best known as an indie rock/soul singer-songwriter who released two studio albums: 2017’s Aromanticism and 2020’s Græ. In the past, Sumney has identified as being “aromantic,” as in someone who experiences little to no romantic attraction toward others. As a musician, he is best known for songs like “Make Out In My Car,” “Don’t Bother Calling,” “Plastic,” “Me In 20 Years,” and “Doomed.”
Following his breakout performance on The Idol, Sumney is already set to appear in an upcoming slasher film by Ti West titled MaXXXine. This new movie will feature Mia Goth in the titular character, as well as Elizabeth Debicki, Michelle Monaghan, Giancarlo Esposito, Bobby Cannavale, Halsey, Kevin Bacon, and Lily Collins, to name a few.
