England will be looking to consolidate top spot in Group G when facing Lithuania on the road to qualifying for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Gareth Southgate's Three Lions lead their group with 10 points from their opening four games, and welcome Lithuania to Wembley following a 1-0 friendly loss to Germany on Wednesday.

The usual contenders are all flying high elsewhere around Europe, with France and Netherlands battling it out at the top of Group A and Portugal pushing Switzerland in Group B.

World Cup holders Germany are five points clear in Group C with Northern Ireland in fine form in second spot.

Two home nations squared off on Friday as Wales and Republic of Ireland drew 0-0 in a game marred by a horror injury to Seamus Coleman, who suffered a double leg break following a challenge by Neil Taylor.

Robert Lewandowski is spear-heading Poland in Group E, Spain and Italy are on course in Group G, while Belgium (H) and Croatia (I) are sitting pretty as well.

The group winners all qualify for the tournament, while the eight-best group runners-up head into a playoff round in November.

The four winners of the two-leg ties will qualify for the World Cup.
