  • For 2025, BMW has revealed a facelift for the electric i4 sedan and the gas-powered 4-series Gran Coupe.

  • The four-cylinder 4-series Gran Coupe adds a 48-volt hybrid system for the first time, and a revised setup gives the six-cylinder M440i an extra 4 hp.

  • Other changes include redesigned headlights and taillights, a new kidney grille, and a slightly updated interior.

BMW just unveiled facelifted versions of the electric 2025 i4 and the gas-powered 2025 4-series Gran Coupe, with both getting restyled versions of the controversial kidney grille. Because the i4 doesn't require as much cooling as the Gran Coupe, the top half of its new grille is closed.

The i4 and 4-series Gran Coupe each earn new headlights and taillights, with the low- and high-beams now housed in a single LED module. As a special bonus, the new headlights perform an animation once the key is within 10 feet of the car, welcoming the driver. Swinging around to the back of the cars, M Sport package-equipped versions of both models feature a rear diffuser that is now finished in gloss black.

Mechanically, the changes are pretty light, but the Gran Coupe models in particular get a revised 48-volt hybrid system, adding the technology to the base turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder for the first time. Despite the addition of the hybrid, the turbo four in the 430i model continues with an identical 255 horsepower. The more powerful M440i is a different story, with the 48-volt setup adding 11 horsepower to the turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six. The updated system brings the combined output to 386 horsepower, marking a 4-hp improvement versus before.

Inside, the changes are pretty minimal. Both models earn BMW's updated iDrive 8.5 software, which unfortunately moves controls for the climate control system, heated seats, and heated steering wheel into the system's touchscreen. The i4 and 4-series Gran Coupe also gain updated cabin materials, with new brushed-aluminum trim and two new open-pore wood options joining the options list

The i4 also gets a unique update with a new plug-and-charge system that can store up to five contracts, allowing you to pay for multiple public charging networks directly from your i4. BMW says both models are slated to start production in July, with pricing to come closer to their on-sale dates.
