21 Savage says getting deported is his 'worst nightmare' as rapper declares he is 'not leaving Atlanta without a fight'

Rapper 21 Savage has said he is “not leaving Atlanta without a fight” after he was arrested for allegedly overstaying his visa in the US.

The 26-year-old, whose real name is Shayaa Bin Abraham-Joseph, was seized on February 3 by officials who claim he is British and in the US illegally.

He was released from immigration custody on Wednesday on a $100,000 bond.

He told the New York Times that not being able to stay in the US was his "worst nightmare."

The rapper says he had no idea what visa he was on when his mother brought him to the US at seven years old.

Earlier this month officials at the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) said he was a British citizen who had overstayed his visa.

He said: “I got three kids, my mam, everything I know is here in Atlanta.

“We’re going to fight all the way till the last day even if that means I sit in jail for 10 years.”

ICE spokesman Bryan Cox said shortly after Abraham-Joseph was taken into custody that he was arrested in a targeted operation that had been planned weeks to months in advance.

Ms Cox said at the time that Abraham-Joseph had overstayed his visa and also was convicted on felony drug charges in Fulton County, Georgia, in October 2014.

Abraham-Joseph was nominated for two awards at the Grammys, including record of the year for "Rockstar" alongside Post Malone.

His second solo album "I Am I Was," released in December, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart.
