22 people have been evacuated from a tenement building in Uddingston following a fire.

We reported that 999 crews including firefighters, cops and ambulance crews were called to a flat in Deanbrae Street on Wednesday morning.

The road was closed and a cordon was in place while crews put out the fire.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that 22 people living in the building were evacuated.

Four people have been taken to hospital.

Firefighters remain on the scene.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 8.53am on Wednesday, June 26 to reports of a dwelling fire at Deanbrae Street, Uddingston.

“Operations Control mobilised four fire appliances and a height appliance where crews extinguished a fire affecting a property on the second floor of a two-storey tenement building.

“Crews safety evacuated 22 people from the building. Four casualties were passed into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service and transferred to University Hospital Monklands.

“We remain at the scene to dampen down any remaining hotspots.”

Police Scotland confirmed that they are on the scene to assist SFRS.

They have assured those affected by the fire that they can take refuge at Park Church on Main Street, where the West of Scotland Housing Association is helping people.

Later, they issued an update that some residents could return to their homes.

A spokesperson said: "Officers are continuing to assist Scottish Fire and Rescue Service colleagues at the scene of a fire on Deanbrae Street, Uddingston, which was reported around 9.15am this morning (Wednesday, June 26, 2024).

"Residents who stay in blocks 1 and 3 are now able to return to their homes. Work remains ongoing within block 5.

"We would encourage any impacted residents who have yet to contact their housing association to do so.

"Deanbrae Street remains closed at this time and motorists are advised to avoid the area."

 

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We received a call at 09:07 to attend an incident on Deanbrae Street, Uddingston, Glasgow.

"Two ambulances, a paramedic response unit and two special operation response teams (SORT) were dispatched to the scene.

"Four patients were transported to University Hospital Monklands.”
