24-hour destination day trips you can do from Liverpool Airport

Day trips can often get repetitive if you don't venture far from home - but have you ever considered hopping on a plane and being back in your bed the same night?

The idea of an ‘extreme’ one-day mini-break is starting to take off with budget airlines offering great deals year-round and, with no hotel expenses or hold luggage charges to worry about, a day trip abroad is more affordable than you might think.

Recently, two friends from Maghull shared how they'd flown to Italy from Manchester for pizza and cocktails and it cost less than the price of a train ticket to London. There are plenty of destinations you can jet off to for a day from Liverpool John Lennon Airport.

Below, we have put together a few examples of options you could book. For this article, we have used the same date [Saturday, July 11] but these could be adjusted but this is likely to result in different prices per person.

Belfast (flying with easyJet):

  • Depart Liverpool at 07:00am, arrive in Belfast at 07:50 am

  • Depart Belfast at 22:10pm, Arrive in Manchester at 11:00pm

In the same amount of time it would take to drive from Liverpool city centre to Manchester, you could jet off to Belfast. With regular flights, there are dozens of options to make this day out a reality.

We found an option with Skyscanner that came in at £36 per person. This trip offered the longest amount of time in the Irish capital with hours to spend sightseeing and enjoying the wonderful food and drink the country has to offer without feeling super rushed to get back to the airport.

Dublin (flying with Ryanair):

  • Depart Liverpool at 07:25am, Arrive in Dublin at 08:20am

  • Depart Dublin at 20:10pm, Arrive in Liverpool at 21:05pm

Another great candidate for a trip outside the UK is Dublin. Just a short hop across the Irish Sea, you could tour of the world-famous Guinness Brewery or enjoy a tipple at the iconic Temple Bar. We found a deal on Skyscanner that also came in at £36 per person.

Jersey (flying with easyJet):

  • Depart Liverpool at 10:05am, Arrive in Jersey at 11:15am

  • Depart Jersey at 18:55pm, Arrive in Liverpool at 20:00pm

Just 70 minutes from Liverpool is Jersey - one of the largest of the Channel Islands and home to 'one of the most glorious beaches' in the British Isles. Thanks to its southerly location and position in the Channel, Jersey is usually warmer than England, giving British holidaymakers a reason to stay closer to home this summer.

The island is home to several charming towns, imposing castles and a national park. We found a deal on Skyscanner that cost exactly £50 per person.

Palma, Spain (flying with Jet2 and easyJet):

  • Depart Liverpool with Jet2 at 08:00am, Arrive in Palma at 11:45am

  • Depart Palma with easyJet at 22:55pm, Arrive in Liverpool at 00:35pm

There's nothing wrong with the beaches at Crosby or Formby, but sometimes the weather can be typically British and a little unpredictable. Instead, for £167 per person, you could spend a relaxing day on a Spanish beach in Palma.

The popular resort city in Mallorca has plenty to see and do if that's your preferred way to holiday. You'll have hours to fill with this deal so why not make the best of both worlds?
