Now that it's October, it's time to watch scary movies.

"Army of the Dead"
Set in Las Vegas during a zombie apocalypse, "Army of the Dead" follows a group of mercenaries as they try to pull off a heist. Director Zack Snyder delivers a thrilling horror movie.
"The Bad Batch"
Director Ana Lily Amipour shows off her skills with this terrifying indie set on a stretch of desert inhabited by cannibals (led by Jason Momoa) and a cult leader (Keanu Reeves).
"The Beguiled"
This gothic remake from Sofia Coppola stars Colin Farrell as a wounded Union Army corporal who is brought back to health by teachers and students at a Virginia all-girls school.
But things go dark when the corporal's health improves and some of the women are attracted to him.
"Bird Box"
This thriller was a sensation when it launched on Netflix in 2018 and it's still as horrific as it was back then.
Sandra Bullock plays a woman who must survive an entity that makes you kill yourself when you look at it.
"Creep"
This popular indie horror stars Mark Duplass as a dying man, who's hired a videographer to record a video diary for his unborn child. But gradually it becomes apparent that everything is wrong about this situation.
What builds the scares is that the 2014 movie is done in a mock-documentary style, so we are watching the found footage of the experience.
The spooky sequel is also available on Netflix.
"Crimson Peak"
This forgotten movie in the Guillermo del Toro filmography is a must-see for gothic horror fanatics.
Starring Tom Hiddleston, Mia Wasikowska, and Jessica Chastain, the movie follows an aspiring author (Wasikowski) who tries to uncover the secrets behind a spooky haunted mansion.
"Day Shift"
This violent and gory dark comedy stars Jamie Foxx as a strapped-for-cash vampire hunter who is forced to work the most boring shift for someone in his profession: the day shift. But that doesn't turn out to be the case.
Also starring Dave Franco and Snoop Dogg, this is an impressive take on the vampire genre.
“Fatal Affair”
Nia Long plays a woman whose marriage is on the rocks, which leads to her having a brief night out with her old friend, David (Omar Epps).
But when she tries to end things, she learns that David isn't going to go away that easily.
"The Good Nurse"
Eddie Redmayne and Jessica Chastain are fantastic in this thriller that's based on the real-life serial killer Charles Cullen.
"Goosebumps"
All of the evil characters of famed author R.L. Stine come to life in this fun thriller in which a group of kids have to stop the evil demons from taking over their town. Jack Black is great as a fictional version of Stine.
"His House"
A Sudanese couple, escaping the horrors of war-torn South Sudan, are now settling into a small English town far from their past.
But they soon learn that there is a very real evil in their new home.
"Hotel Transylvania 2"
In part two of this animated franchise that's great for the whole family, Dracula (Adam Sandler) gets his ghoulish gang together to help him turn his grandson into a monster.
"Hubie Halloween"
Adam Sandler blessed us with a Halloween movie the only way he knows how.
Here, he plays Hubie Dubois, known in his town for his love of Halloween. Because of his spooky delights, he's become a joke to everyone. But on this Halloween, the outcast Hubie will become the town's savior.
Get ready for a slew of Sandler movie regulars, including Steve Buscemi, Kevin James, Rob Schneider, and Blake Clark.
"I Don't Feel at Home in This World Anymore"
In this fantastic dark and twisted comedy, Melanie Lynskey plays a nurse who learns she's been burgled after a long shift. With the police not being very helpful, she takes matters into her own hands.
With the help of her neighbor, played by Elijah Wood, the two set out to take back what's hers and it leads them on a wild and violent adventure.
"It Follows" (available October 11)
This acclaimed 2014 thriller follows a young woman (Maika Monroe) who is being trailed by a supernatural spirit after having a sexual encounter. The only way she can escape it is to have sex with someone else.
"Jaws: The Revenge"
Hands down the wackiest movie in the "Jaws" franchise, "Jaws: The Revenge" goes full B-movie horror as a great-white shark seeks revenge for the deaths of its past family members in the previous movies. It even torments Ellen Brody (Lorraine Gray) from the waters of Amity Island all the way to the Bahamas.
"John Carpenter's Vampires"
The legendary horror director takes on the vampire genre in this fun and bloody thriller starring James Woods as a smart-ass vampire hunter.
"The Pope's Exorcist"
Russell Crowe delivers a scenery-chewing performance as the Vatican's leading exorcist in this fun horror.
"Prisoners"
In "Prisoners," Jake Gyllenhaal plays a cop handling a case in which two families are trying to find their daughters after they were abducted.
This fantastic thriller from Denis Villeneuve features a top-flight supporting cast that includes Hugh Jackman, Terrence Howard, Viola Davis, Maria Bello, and Paul Dano.
The movie also has exquisite cinematography from Roger Deakins and an ending that will floor you.
"The Sentinel"
This solid 1977 horror movie stars Cristina Raines as a fashion model who begins to feel the place she's moved into isn't the best as it becomes more clear that it's a gateway to hell.
The movie has a great cast that includes Ava Gardner, Burgess Meredith, Eli Wallach, and smaller roles from then-newcomers Christopher Walken, Jeff Goldblum, and Beverly D'Angelo.
"Spookley the Square Pumpkin"
Need something for the kids to get them in the Halloween spirit, but won't keep them up all night frightened to death? This film is a great choice.
Watch Spookley as he rises above the constant teases around the patch for being a square pumpkin. The movie has a great message and some catchy songs.
"Unfriended"
Told entirely inside a computer screen, this horror follows six friends on a Skype call who are tormented by a student they bullied to the point of committing suicide.
"Under the Shadow"
This underrated horror follows a mother and daughter, who realize there's something deadly inside their home — all while trying to deal with the post-revolution raging outside their windows in 1980s Tehran.
"Vampires vs. the Bronx"
If you dug the John Boyega thriller "Attack the Block," but want to see kids battle vampires instead of aliens, then this is the movie for you.
Here, a group of friends in the Bronx battle a group of vampires, who have infiltrated their neighborhood.
"Wallace & Gromit: The Cure of the Were-Rabbit"
This classic from the stop-motion animation franchise follows cheese-loving Wallace and his quiet loyal dog Gromit as pest-control workers trying to help a town overrun by rabbits. It turns out there's a lot of scary things happening as well.
