Hundreds of young musicians joined Andrew Lloyd Webber to celebrate the fifth anniversary of his Music in Secondary Schools Trust.

At a special gala concert at the London Palladium, 250 students from 10 London schools took part in a concert, with performances of Finlandia by Sibelius, Piano Concerto No. 1 in F Major by Mozart, and movements from Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony.

The students, with guest performers from the English Schools’ Orchestra and English Young Artists’ Sinfonia, also played two compositions created for the event this week.

Since the trust’s programme started in April 2013, free tuition has been provided to 5,000 pupils from dis-advantaged backgrounds.

It currently gives free teaching and instruments to 3,700 pupils in 11 London schools.
