The 50 Fastest Growing Online Jobs

This year, online employers are looking for workers skilled in mobile development and 3D technologies, new research shows.

Of the top 11 fastest-growing online jobs in 2014, more than half are related to either mobile development or 3D work, according to the study by the freelancing and crowdsourcing marketplace Freelancer.com.

The research shows that in the first quarter of 2014, all work related to 3D technologies took a dramatic leap forward. The fastest-growing online job was 3D rendering, with the number of open positions increasing by nearly 44 percent since the first of the year to 2,784. Additionally, 3D animation — the fourth fastest growing online position — increased 35 percent to 3,183 jobs, while the sixth fastest growing online job, 3D modeling, saw a 34 percent increase in the number of open jobs. Continuing a trend that began last year, the study revealed that mobile developers with Android skills are still more sought after than those with iPhone talents. Android development, the seventh fastest growing online job, saw a 34 percent increase, to 11,141 open positions in the first three months of the year, versus iPhone's 32 percent increase to 10,207 jobs. In this year's rankings, iPhone development ranked 11th.
