6.9-Magnitude Quake Off Papua New Guinea
A 6.9-magnitude earthquake has struck off Papua New Guinea, according to the US Geological Survey.
The quake struck 96 miles (155 km) south of Rabaul at a depth of 53 miles (85 km).
There are no immediate reports of damages or casualties.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre has said there is no danger of a tsunami.
Rabaul, a town on East New Britain Island, lies in the shadow of Mount Tavurvur, an active volcano.
During a severe eruption in 1994, Rabaul was destroyed.
