61% of Conservative voters believe gay sex is 'unnatural'

• 61% of all Tory voters and 59% of Brexit supporters believe gay sex is unnatural.

• Half of all voters believe teachers should be prohibited from teaching primary school children about gay relationships.

• Third of voters believe gay couples should not be allowed children.

• Findings come 50 years after gay relationships were decriminalised in the UK.

LONDON — Six-in-ten Conservative voters believe that gay sex is unnatural, fifty years after it was decriminalised in the UK, according to a new poll.

61% of all Conservative voters who expressed an opinion said that sex between gay people is unnatural compared to just 27% of Labour voters and 22% of Liberal Democrat voters.

The pattern was similar among Brexit voters with 59% of Leavers, who expressed an opinion, believing that gay sex is unnatural, compared to just 25% of Remain voters.

The YouGov poll, commissioned by Pink News, found that there remains widespread bigotry against homosexual people in Britain, with 42% of all voters agreeing that sex between gay people is unnatural.

Nine years after Section 28, which prohibited teachers from educating children about homosexuality, was repealed, today's poll found that 48% of people still believe that teaching primary school children about gay relationships should be banned.

Around a third of voters also believe that gay couples should not be allowed to have children.

The poll found a large age divide with 78% of people aged between 18-24 saying gay sex is natural, compared to 69% of people aged over 65 who believe it is unnatural.

Chief Executive Benjamin Cohen described the findings as "depressing."

"It is depressing that 50 years on from the Sexual Offences Act that so many people still think that gay sex is unnatural and that a third oppose gay couples having children," he said.

"It is gratifying though to know that for younger people, gay relationships are considered perfectly natural and they strongly support gay parents and teaching young people about gay relationships."
