We asked Telegraph and Argus readers on Facebook what they thought were the best “hidden gem” restaurants, cafes and takeaways in the area.

Doyle's Fisheries

A handful of readers seem to be a huge fan of Doyle's Fisheries, as one commented: “Doyle's fish shop otley Rd shipley eat in or take out consistent every time.”

Another agreed, saying: “Best fish shop by far.!"

From scollops, to fish cakes and haddock, there’s plenty of choices to choose from (you can even grab a spam butty).

Lil Afrikana

Location: 57 Great Horton Road, Bradford, BD7 1AZ

Lil Afrikana serving African food with a “modern twist” was also suggested numerous times as one of the best “hidden gems” in the district.

“Lil Afrikana Bradford amazing food and phenomenal customer service,” commented one local.

This Facebook account wrote: “Amazing food every time! Consistently delicious!”

Someone even said: “The food at Lil’ Afrikana Bradford is the best food I've had in Bradford so far!”

The Royal Low Moor

Location: 5 Wooller Road, Low Moor, Bradford, BD12 0RR

This gastropub known for its cosy surroundings and “beautiful” décor was highly recommended by our readers.

This recently visitor added: “Freshly cooked food, great beer choices and lovely staff. Family owned business in Low Moor. Well worth the short journey from the city centre.”

Salt & Chilli House

Location: 77 Compton Street, Bradford, BD4 9NE

This person who ordered recently from Salt & Chilli House replied to our Facebook post saying: “We had a meal from Salt & Chilli House Corban Street just off Rooley Lane last week.

“Ordered many dishes for 7 people. The food was excellent and SO reasonably priced. The staff were friendly and helpful.

“I don't think many people know about this place, we certainly didn't it was friends who recommended them. We'll be ordering from them regularly.”

From a full English breakfast available in various sizes no matter what the appetite, to a hot beef and onion gravy sandwich, there’s hearty food to suit everyone.

Rumpus

Location: 22 Bingley Road, Shipley, BD18 4RU

Among the hundreds of comments, Rumpus in Saltaire also received some shoutouts.

A response wrote: “Rumpus in Saltaire. Best burgers in the area. Clean place with quality ingredients.”

White Horse Inn Thornton

Location: Well Heads, Thornton, Denholme, Bradford, BD13 3SJ

“White horse at Thornton. Lovely food and friendly staff,” suggested one resident.

Replying to this comment, another said: “Never had a poor meal there the tiger prawn noodles is amazing.”
