Queen Elizabeth II 1926-2022: Her life and reign in pictures
Queen Elizabeth II has died at the age of 96, Buckingham Palace has announced.
In a statement shared on Thursday (September 8) at 6.30pm London time, the palace said: "The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon. The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow."
Queen Elizabeth II was the longest-reigning British monarch, and the longest-serving female head of state in recorded history. Here, we chart her life and reign in photos – from Princess to Queen.
