8 celebrities who tried to imitate Audrey Hepburn

Kim Kardashian is having an Audrey Hepburn moment.

Appearing in a series of ads for Hype Energy drink dressed as the “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” actress, the reality TV star was photographed riding a bike in very un-Kardashian-like clothing inculding a black turtleneck, skinny jeans, flats and blunt cut bangs. Hype explains that the ads are part of “a work of art” in collaboration with Rushka Bergman, contributing fashion editor for L'Uomo Vogue and Vogue Italia.

Not the first to look to the Hollywood fashion icon for style inspiration, here’s a round-up of some of the best (and worst) celebrity Audrey attempts.

In 2000, Jennifer Love Hewitt played Audrey Hepburn in the TV movie, “The Audrey Hepburn Story.” Though the film received crushing reviews by critics, Hewitt’s performance did stand out. One reviewer claimed, “I soon forgot that I was watching Jennifer Love Hewitt portray Audrey Hepburn and believed that I was watching Audrey Hepburn.” Another said, “Jennifer Love Hewitt - whom I have yet to see in anything else - actually does a pretty admirable job of pretending to be Hepburn.”

Harper’s Bazaar

Natalie Portman ups the ante with her 2006 cover of Harper’s Bazaar by wearing the original “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” Givenchy black column dress Hepburn wore. “I was so nervous that I wasn’t going to fit,” Portman said in the article. “Everyone kept telling me how small it was, and I’m not the type who can starve myself. I’m small, but it’s not like I’m see-through.”

In a less valiant attempt, Nicky Hilton’s 2009 Halloween costume hints at Hepburn’s iconic look from “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” but doesn’t quite capture the opulence.

Vogue

Though not actually wearing any Tiffany’s jewellery, Anne Hathaway appeared in a “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”-inspired editorial for Vogue in 2010 sporting a beehive hairstyle punctured with a Boucheron diamond, pink sapphire, and ruby brooch.

Tatler

At first glance, Lily Collins is easily mistaken for Hepburn in the June 2011 edition of Tatler. The editorial was inspired by “Roman Holiday,” Hepburn’s 1953 classic.

Entertainment Weekly

Comedian Tina Fey pokes fun while doing a pretty stellar job at imitating Hepburn’s “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” poster for Entertainment Weekly. Bonus points to her for including a cat – though Orangey was probably less impressed.

Max Factor

“She’s not pretty enough to be Audrey!“ and “'worst casting ever!” were just a few of the negative responses Gwyneth Paltrow’s Audrey Hepburn-inspired ad for Max Factor received through Twitter in 2014, according to a report in the Daily Mail. The "Breakfast at Tiffany’s” portrait was just one in a series inspired by icons including Madonna, Brigitte Bardot and Farrah Fawcett.
