How 8 elite pundits see Scotland's Euro 2024 journey panning out as Ferdinand, Rooney, Hart and Shearer speak out

It's the only show in town this summer and Scotland are front and centre with an invite to the biggest party of them all.

Steve Clarke and his troops did superbly in qualification to reach Euro 2024. It is a second successive major tournament but this time around we are all guests after Covid wrecked havoc with the viewing numbers last time back home. It's back to a life of full stadia, hundreds of thousands of fans travelling and in true Scottish fashion – the eyes of the world will be on us as Andy Robertson leads the troops onto the park at the Allianz Arena to face Germany in the curtain raiser on Friday night.

The Tartan Army are already heading out in force with many, many more set to follow with the national team taking up residency in their base camp since Sunday. Preparations on the training ground are ramping up as Clarke and his staff plot not only an upset against the Germans but a way past Hungary and Switzerland as they bid to create history and reach the knockout stages. As Scottish fans we are optimistic as ever but how do EIGHT elite pundits rate our chances at the Euros?

Rio Ferdinand

"It's the Tartan Army. That is an extra point or two in the group stage, it has to be. The passion and enthusiasm you are going to see. The team must feed off that. We saw it with Wales with Bale, Ramsey, Ashley Williams and stuff all doing their thing in the Euros. I think it could almost be that type of scenario because of the fan fare that goes with it. I am going to agree they get out of the group."

Ally McCoist

"I am going to agree. It is a little bit of sod’s law that about three or four months ago I thought 'Germany are a bit iffy at the moment' but recently they've looked tremendous - which isn't great for us. But we've got to have a go at Switzerland and Hungary. Goalscoring has been and might continue to be a little bit of a problem for us. But we are looking at guys like McTominay and McGinn who have got goals in them."

Wayne Rooney

"They will have great support behind them and their fans will be there in their numbers, but I do think it will be difficult for Scotland to get out of their group."

Micah Richards

"Scotland will reach the last 16 but after that they are done."

Joe Hart

"As well as England, I'll be watching Scotland closely because of my old team-mates from Celtic who are in their team. How Scotland do doesn't bother me, but I want my pals to do well. There is quality in that team, I think they feel like they are going to be solid, and as hard to beat as they possibly can."

Alan Shearer

That's a tough group for them. They haven't had a great run leading up to the Euros, but you never know what could happen if they can get a bit of momentum.

Kenny Miller

"It is a really good squad and I think they will go through from the group. Against Germany we will go in as underdogs, but we tend to excel in those situations. Scotland will go into the Euros confident because in the last five years under Steve Clarke they have been moving in the right direction."

Gary McAillister

"We’ve had some good results in qualifying, managing to defeat Spain and Norway. Steve Clarke’s done brilliantly well to get us there and I’m really hopeful because obviously we don’t get into a major tournament every time. We’ve never got through the qualifying group, but I think we’re capable. I think that in the opening game, we won’t be favourites, but the German national team has gone through probably one of its worst periods ever. They come into it under the pressure of being the host as well. We could cause an upset."
