More than 80% of millennials say they don’t know how to change a light bulb

Most millennials don’t know how to change a light bulb, a survey has revealed.

A shocking 84% of people aged 18 to 24 said they were incapable of completing the relatively simple task.

In addition, 74% said they didn’t have the confidence to assemble a piece of flat pack furniture.

They said they would rather pay someone else to do it in case they “muck it up”.

The poll was carried out by website Airtasker, which provides a service for those seeking to outsource everyday tasks.

It also found that 82% of young people don’t feel confident enough to clean their car.

Almost eight out of ten (79%) said they would not try to paint a shed and three-quarters said they didn’t know how to defrost a freezer.

Meanwhile, 73% said they couldn’t fix a curtain rail, while two-thirds said they couldn’t put up shelves.

Those behind the poll found that young people lack basic DIY skills because they live with their parents for longer than previous generations.

Ana Vitorino, spokesperson for Airtasker, said: “While the older generation were largely content with traditional routine of work, home, marriage, children and retirement, the younger generation have different plans.

“And these plans do not involve bleeding a radiator.”
