Next week's Hollyoaks episodes feature more twists and turns in Mercedes McQueen's storyline, while Mitchell Deveraux and Scott Drinkwell may be about to hit the rocks again.

Here's a full collection of nine storylines you can look forward to.

As Sylver remains in jail, Mercedes's son Bobby continues to give her a hard time. Bobby insists on seeing Sylver in the run-up to Christmas, but Mercedes puts her foot down by refusing to allow it.

Mercedes is also given food for thought when James and Liam try to recruit her as the first client for their protection racket, pointing out that she could do with someone to keep her safe.

Mercedes considers it as she feels vulnerable, but another conversation with Bobby soon leads her to make another decision entirely – and it's a big one.

2. Mercedes turns back to Liam

One huge choice from Mercedes soon leads to another, as she realises how much she misses her romantic connection with Liam. The pair's affair ended badly a few weeks ago, but Mercedes turns back to Liam when she's looking for some fun – believing that he's the only person who won't judge her.

Mercedes tells Liam that she did love him when they were together – and potentially still does. Will Liam be interested?

3. Mitchell continues to lie

Scott is frustrated when Mitchell continues to hide their relationship. Still reluctant to be honest with his family about his sexuality, Mitchell fools them with tales of his supposed new girlfriend 'Sabrina'.

Scott and Mitchell do get a chance to be a proper couple when they head into town together for the Christmas markets, and Scott hopes there has been a breakthrough when Mitchell promises to be honest with his family the following day. However, a couple of days later, Mitchell still hasn't made the big step.

4. Azim tries to help Scott and Mitchell

As Scott starts to lose patience over Mitchell's attitude, Azim is on hand to help him see things from another perspective. He points out how difficult it must be for Mitchell to go against what he was taught by his strict grandfather Walter when he was growing up.

Azim arranges for Scott to help Walter with his food bank, believing this will provide some insight into what Mitchell experienced when he was younger.

5. Diane considers her future

Mortified after her night of passion with Edward, Diane insists that what happened was a mistake and won't be happening again. However, Diane is left with some serious thinking to do when a disappointed Edward admits that he is besotted with her.

As Scott encourages Diane to move on from Tony, she explains that she doesn't want a fling. As Diane thinks more about it, she's surprised to realise what she does want.

Sid gets up to no good once more when he targets Price Slice and steals from the shop.

Romeo and Juliet are surprised to see Sid running away from the local store after his shoplifting antics and tell Leela what has been going on.

Worried, Leela convinces him to come and stay with her, but Peri is less than impressed about her new houseguest, given that he's Stuart's son. Can Leela get her to come round to the idea?

7. Liam and James get passionate again

Following their hook-up in Thursday's first look episode (December 12), James is surprised to discover that Liam doesn't regret their night together. Although James is keen to keep business as usual, it becomes clear that he and Liam may not be on the same page when it comes to the project.

As they search for clients, mischievous Liam fails to take the process seriously and instead has some fun. After a successful day, James kisses Liam again, but could this turn into something more?

Maxine is still being snubbed by most of the villagers in the aftermath of her lies about being ill. This means that she may be facing a lonely Christmas – at least until Walter steps in.

Walter leaves Maxine delighted by inviting her to be part of his festive sermon. Maxine hopes this is the beginning of her being welcomed back into the community – it is the season of goodwill, after all.

Liberty and Brody continue to struggle with their guilt after sleeping together to make a baby for Sienna. They only feel worse when they see how excited Sienna is about the possibility of being a mum again.

Brody encourages Liberty to take a pregnancy test sooner rather than later, so they know what they're dealing with. And the result is sure to spark even more drama...
