Home and Away is officially back on Channel 5 after a six-week break – and the next 12 months are sure to be full of storylines that will go down in Aussie soap history, as the show marks its 30th anniversary.

So, what do we already know about upcoming storylines? Be warned, there are some pretty major plot revelations ahead…

1. 'Who's the daddy?' storyline for Kat

Life in Summer Bay rarely runs smoothly for Kat and it's no different now that we know she's pregnant. Upcoming episodes see Kat receive the big news that she's much further along with her pregnancy than she originally thought. This means that her ex-boyfriend Ash is the father, not her boyfriend Robbo.

Robbo seems like a pretty loyal guy, but the big question is whether he'll still want to stand by his girlfriend when he knows the truth. Will he do the right thing and support Kat?

2. Maggie's mother causes tensions

The first episode back on screen in 2018 featured the arrival of someone very close to the Astoni clan – Maggie's mum Diana Walford. (No connection to Albert Square… we think.)

Diana shares a very turbulent history with Ben, constantly finding fault with him as she reckons he isn't good enough for her daughter. When Ben finally loses it with Diana, an unimpressed Maggie challenges him to make his peace with her for their family's sake. Ben ends up teaming up with Diana to spring a surprise vow renewal on Maggie, so could this be a turning point?

3. Ash kidnaps Mick

You can expect a lot more drama from Irene Roberts's twisted son in the early episodes of 2018. Despite Alf arranging for Mick to get a new job in Western Australia – which would take him far away from Summer Bay – the villain infuriates everyone by repeatedly finding excuses to stick around.

When it becomes increasingly clear that Mick could steal away baby Luc, Ash decides that the "softly softly" approach isn't working. Fighting back, the bad boy kidnaps Mick and warns that he'll end up dead if he ever returns to Summer Bay.

Sadly, Ash's intervention looks likely to make matters ten times worse, when Tori disapproves of his threatening behaviour and a furious Mick starts searching for paternity tests to prove his claim on little Luc.

4. Robbo hears a shocking revelation

Robbo's past unravels when he once again comes face-to-face with Dennis Novak, the dangerous guy who was spying on him last year. When Robbo tracks Novak down at an old warehouse, he pushes him for answers – but they're not ones that he wanted to hear.

Dropping some major bombshells, Novak explains that Robbo is a hitman who was sent to kill Kat, which certainly fills in the blanks after his amnesia ordeal. Robbo's main priority afterwards is keeping Kat safe, but just how easy will that be while Novak is around?

5. Robbo covers up a shock death

Robbo's storyline later takes another unexpected turn when his high-stakes final showdown with Novak sees the dangerous villain end up dead! In dramatic episodes due to air on Channel 5 in a few weeks' time, Robbo is forced to take action after Novak kidnaps Kat.

When Novak is shot dead in the chaos that follows, Robbo covers his tracks by dumping Novak's body out at sea, but hiding the truth from Kat afterwards won't be easy. The first signs of trouble ahead for Robbo come when a special police task force takes over the investigation into Novak, not realising that he's already dead.

When Kat's no-nonsense police colleagues spot holes in Robbo's story, he's left in a total panic as he knows it's only a matter of time before the truth comes to light.

6. Willow makes her debut

Make a note in your diaries for January 19, when another exciting new arrival turns up in the Bay. Actress Sarah Roberts made her debut on Australian screens late last year as Willow Harris, who gets caught up in big drama with Justin Morgan in her early storylines.

Arriving with a bang, Willow turns up on a motorbike and angrily attacks Justin – wanting to know where some missing money is. Unfortunately, Justin has already given the cash in question to the police after it fell out of the bumper of another customer's car. Has Willow just brought a whole heap of trouble to Justin's door?

7. Alf welcomes back his daughter

Alf's daughter Quinn Jackson hasn't been seen in Summer Bay since 1995, but she's making up for lost time when she reappears soon. Quinn's comeback is hot on the heels of her son Ryder causing a stir with his own unexpected arrival recently.

Quinn was played by Danielle Spencer in the '90s, but actress Lara Cox has taken over the role for her latest stint.

8. VJ's exit

Home and Away's Aussie fans watched some emotional scenes late last year, with Leah Patterson's son VJ bowing out from the Bay after 16 years. Matt Little, who had a three-year stint in the role, has left Home and Away for pastures new.

VJ's final storyline sees him flee the country with baby Luc to ensure that Mick can't claim custody of the innocent youngster. Although the original plan was for Ash to leave, he decides to stick around in the Bay after discovering Kat's baby news – forcing VJ to take his place. How will Leah cope without her son?

9. Olivia's love triangle

There's a new romantic dilemma ahead for Olivia when she starts working with newcomer Axel Boyd, who runs a fashion website. Axel has more than business on his mind when he makes a move on Olivia, and although she rejects him first time around, she later cheats on her boyfriend Hunter King by giving into temptation.

It's clear that Olivia will have a decision to make between both guys, but which way will she go? It's not looking good for Hunter, we're afraid...

10. Shock death!

Home and Away viewers Down Under watched their dramatic season finale episode a few weeks ago. The episode in question won't air on Channel 5 until March, but it had a huge impact in Australia, as it saw Kat get killed off after a terrifying road accident.

When Kat tries to flee Summer Bay with Robbo after his crimes are exposed, there's a tragic outcome as they have a terrifying collision with another vehicle – driven by new character Jasmine Delaney (Sam Frost).

The accident leads to a double tragedy as Kat gets rushed to hospital and dies alongside her unborn baby in heartbreaking scenes. Tori Morgan is responsible for breaking the news to the baby's father Ash and her brother Justin, before the Bay's residents gathered for a candlelit vigil.

11. Ash goes out for revenge

One of the biggest storylines to come, which hasn't even aired in Australia yet, focuses on Ash's desperate desire for revenge after the death of Kat and their baby.

Ash bitterly blames Robbo for everything, and a dramatic promo for 2018 sees the men braced for a showdown on some cliffs. Could their clash have a deadly outcome?

12. The River Boys return

Although the Braxton brothers aren't coming back to the Bay, their River Boys gang lives on with new members. Trailers for 2018 show the River Boys causing trouble in Summer Bay all over again, much to the concern of Alf Stewart.

Alf spreads the word that the River Boys are ones to be wary of, but is he right to be so worried?

13. Brody and Ziggy get married

Just before Christmas, the Home and Away cast were pictured filming on location for scenes which see Brody Morgan and Ziggy Astoni tie the knot.

We won't see these scenes until way into the year, due to the show filming so far in advance – but at least we know Brody and Ziggy's on-off romance is getting serious in 2018!

14. Maggie's illness

Maggie Astoni collapsed in the final Home and Away episode of the year in Australia last month, as UK fans will see in a few weeks' time. It's thought that Maggie will be diagnosed with cancer in 2018, leading to a long battle.

Even in Ziggy's wedding scenes, which are not due to air for several months, Maggie is seen collapsing again as her health takes another turn for the worse. Will she pull through?
