9 millennial pink destinations you need to visit
Millennials have laid claim to a lot of obscure things over the past few years - spending an entire house deposit on smashed avocado on toast, drinking fancy lattes with rainbow-coloured froth and partaking in casual veganism, to name just a few.
Now there's another trend to define today’s twenty-somethings - Millennial Pink (also acting under the alias of ‘Tumblr Pink’ and ‘Scandi Pink’).
Aside from being the first colour to define a generation, it seemingly arrived from nowhere, quickly permeating our clothing, our homewares and even our food.
At this point, you’re probably thinking, what the heck is it anyway? Just good old-fashioned pink, right?
Not quite. Millennial pink is a very special shade that’s both retro and modern. It’s “cheeky, sincere, and nostalgic all at once”, say The New York Times.
Most importantly, it’s everywhere - especially a millennial's virtual home, Instagram.
From dreamy Wes Anderson buildings to pink-coloured cafes, these destinations - whether ironically aware or happy accidents - have Millennials flocking to their doors by the dozen for a gratuitous selfie or two.
So before cool inevitably moves on, make sure you’ve ticked these pink places off your Insta bucket list.
1. Atlantis Palm Hotel, Dubai
A post shared by Atlantis The Palm, Dubai (@atlantisthepalm) on Jun 25, 2017 at 11:29pm PDT
In a destination that’s known for its futuristic appeal, this fairytale castle is undoubtedly the prettiest digs in the City of Gold. If you thought the soaring pastel turrets and Arabian archways were unashamedly glitzy, the inside won’t disappoint either - if you can afford the £13,000 per night bill.
2. Serralves, Porto, Portugal

Built by French architect Jose Marques Da Silva, this dusky pink mansion looks more like Barbie’s beach house than an Art Deco building from the 1930s. It’s also attached to one of the best contemporary art museums in Europe - so you can get your cultural fix while snapping happy.
3. The Pink Palace, Jaipur, India

This Wes Anderson-worthy palace in India is way ahead of the curve. Its blush sandstone exterior was built back in 1799, but it’s probably now more relevant than ever. Cher Horowitz from Clueless would be proud.
4. The Masjid Dimaukom Mosque, Maguindanao, The Philippines

This ‘mosque like no other’ in the province of Maguindanao is pretty much unmissable. Travellers from far and wide come to photograph its candy floss domes and bubblegum minarets. Apparently it was painted pink to represent peace and love – but we’re pretty sure these guys new the pink-ocalypse was coming.
5. Paul Smith Wall, West Hollywood, Los Angeles

Perhaps one of the most photographed walls of all time, Sir Smith’s pink store in West Hollywood has become a La La Land landmark in its own right. Go here on a sunny day and you’ll see Silverlake hipsters lining up to strike a pose against its bright pink wall. It even has its own security guard who’s tasked with making sure photo takers don’t mindlessly wander into traffic.
6. Sketch, Soho, London

London is, without question, the capital of the world for afternoon tea – and Sketch is the place to take it. Literally everything here is pink: pink clamshell chairs, pink ceilings, pink bar, pink David Shrigley adorned walls…. You get the picture.
7. Chesma church, St. Petersburg, Russia

Impossibly pink shots don't get more impressive than this flamingo-pink church and its iced turrets. If the swoonworthy design wasn't enough, we're impressed that it was built back in 1790 - centuries before we hit peak pink.
8. Frank's Cafe, Peckham, London
A post shared by Bold Tendencies (@boldtendencies) on Apr 28, 2017 at 10:53am PDT
If you thought the G&T’s and the panoramic view from this multi-storey carpark in South London look good, wait until you see its freshly painted hallways. It’s probably the pinkest place in the capital. Two words: Instagram goals
9. Pietro Nolita, Manhatten, New York
A post shared by Catherine Dugas (@catherinedugas) on Jun 23, 2017 at 2:09pm PDT
This Fifties-style subterranean diner is the place to get your pink fix stateside along with a healthy dose of house inspo. It’s seriously pink and primed for minimalist millennials – the only other colour you’ll find in here is in the odd houseplant or two.
