“90210”’s Shenae Grimes-Beech and Matt Lanter’s Kids Are Headed to School Together: 'Lannie Forever' (Exclusive)

Since the show wrapped more than 10 years ago, Shenae Grimes-Beech has welcomed two kids with her husband, Josh Beech

While fans might never know what came of Annie Wilson and Liam Court on 90210, the actors who played the iconic characters will soon find themselves back in each other's lives — for a very sweet reason.

Shenae Grimes-Beech, who played Annie on 90210 from 2008 to 2013, tells PEOPLE that she and Matt Lanter — who played her love interest Liam — are actually neighbors now.

"Lannie forever," the actress jokes, referencing their characters' couple name.

While she admits the two don’t see each “very often,” their daughters will be attending the same school next year.

“So I'll be seeing Matt more, which is cool,” she says of her former costar, who shares his daughter MacKenlee Faire with wife Angela. “And just a funny small world.”

As far as her other castmates from the Beverly Hills, 90210 spinoff, Grimes-Beech, 34, says she and Jessica Stroup exchange birthday texts and while she and AnnaLynne McCord remain “super close,” the two can go months without talking.

But once they do find themselves touching base, it’s “just word vomit for two hours on the phone catching up,” she says.

The actress also reaches out to Tristan Wilds — who played her character's brother Dixon on the show — "every now and then," she adds. Wilds shares two daughters with his high school sweetheart Christina Hammond.

“It's so funny to see us all grown up,” Grimes-Beech says with a smile.

Grimes-Beech stepped into the role of Annie Wilson following a four-year stint as Darcy Edwards on another beloved teen drama, Degrassi: The Next Generation. The two characters “had a lot of similarities,” she says, though Annie was easier for her to relate to.

“Darcy was the goody girl because of a religious background, which I could not identify with,” she explains. “There was no basis for me in that to be like, ‘Oh yeah, these are pieces of myself that I can relate to and I'm putting into this character.’ ”

Whereas for Annie, Grimes-Beech remembers feeling connected to her character all the way back in the audition process when she was actually trying out for both Annie and Silver — the more “rebel-y girl" ultimately played by Stroup.

After stumbling on her lines during the audition for Silver she remembers having “a complete breakdown in the waiting room” before her Annie screen test.

“When I walked back into that room again after knowing I just messed up in front of all these people, the scene was a scene with her dad and it's all about, ‘I don't belong here. I just want to go home,’ ” she says. “Like the real Annie, fish out of water, Kansas girl, doesn't fit in, blah, blah, blah. And I was just — in my head — I was talking to my mom on the phone in that moment, just begging her to take me out of that room and bring me back home, because I clearly did not belong there, and I was just sobbing and there were like watery eyes looking back at me.”

To this day, Grimes-Beech says that moment is one of the reasons she landed the part.

“I totally relate to Annie and that first year experience, particularly for her, because I was really doing a lot of that myself,” she remembers. “I moved to L.A. from Canada, living on my own for the first time, no family around, or anything like that, just having to deal with a lot of firsts on my own.”

Now, more than 10 years after the show was cancelled in what Grimes-Beech calls a "very frustrating" end, the mom of two now creates lifestyle content for her 500,000-plus followers on Instagram and TikTok, a career move she says has given her the flexibility that working as a full-time actor would not offer.

Though now as her kids are getting older, she says there just might be more in store for her acting-wise.

"I want to maybe do a podcast or a non-scripted series, and then maybe start dabbling in acting again," she says. "Because my kids are about to start being off at school, they're not going to want me around for much longer. I'm like, 'Okay, mom might be ready to get back on the horse.' "
