A24 Series ‘The Curse’ with Emma Stone, Nathan Fielder, and Benny Safdie Sets Release Date

Emma Stone and Nathan Fielder are ready to go house-hunting to flip homes in the upcoming A24 series set for Showtime, “The Curse.”

The Oscar-winning “Poor Things” actress and “The Rehearsal” creator play a married couple trying to conceive a child while gentrifying a neighborhood through house-flipping deals. The series, which spoofs an HGTV house-flipping show, is co-created (and co-stars) Benny Safdie, who plays the fictional reality show’s producer.

“The Curse” follows Asher (Fielder) and Whitney (Stone) Siegel who are married entrepreneurs (don’t call them gentrifiers). Their latest plan is to flip houses and convert them into eco-friendly homes for the struggling residents of Española, New Mexico — all for an HGTV-style reality show being overseen by an ingratiating producer (Safdie) with demons of his own. From this premise, which nimbly touches upon inescapable American issues of race, class, and capital, Fielder and Safdie branch out into an increasingly tangled network of ethical and moral gray zones, expertly balancing the tender and the merciless.

Barkhad Abdi, Corbin Bernsen, and Constance Shulman guest star.

The 10-episode series is co-produced by Showtime and A24, and will premiere on streaming and on-demand for all Showtime and Paramount+ with Showtime subscribers November 10 before making its on-air debut on Showtime November 12.

The show will debut its first three episodes at the 2023 New York Film Festival as part of the Spotlight programming. Episodes 4 through 10 will be screened at Film at Lincoln Center during the show’s run.

Fielder and Safdie co-created the series, as well as wrote and executive produced. Stone executive produces alongside Dave McCary and Ali Herting through their Fruit Tree banner. Josh Safdie also executive produces with the Safdie Brothers’ Elara Pictures banner. Fielder and David and Nathan Zellner direct.
