A303 crash: Elderly man dies after head-on collision in Wiltshire

An elderly man died at the scene of a crash on the A303 yesterday (Tuesday, April 30). A second man suffered potentially life-changing leg injuries following the head-on collision near Tisbury in Wiltshire.

The crash took place on the single carriageway section of the A303 at Chilmark at around 3.35pm. An Audi A4 was heading eastbound when it collided with a second vehicle, a Volkswagen Caravelle, travelling in the other direction.

Wiltshire Police said the driver of the Audi, a man in his 80s, was sadly declared dead at the scene. The driver of the Volkswagen, a man in his 30s, suffered serious leg injuries and has been taken to hospital, while a passenger in the Volkswagen, a woman in her 20s, suffered minor injuries.

The road was fully closed before reopening at around 5.30am this morning (Wednesday, May 1). investigating officers are now appealing to the public for information on the crash.

Police said: "Any witnesses to the collision or anyone who may have dash cam are asked to contact the serious collision investigation team on 01225 694597 quoting log number 194 of yesterday’s date. Alternatively, they can contact the team directly at SCIT@wiltshire.police.uk."
