A53 dug up again as latest works trigger rush-hour delays

Temporary traffic lights are back on one of Stoke-on-Trent's busiest roads - as it's dug up yet again. The latest scheme on Leek New Road, through Stockton Brook, relates to emergency telecommunications works.

It comes just weeks after highways crews had worked through the night resurfacing the battered stretch between Shaldon Avenue and Bunts Lane after motorists had bemoaned sinking grids and shaky manhole covers. Now a manhole cover on the northbound side has been exposed as works have taken place.

The scheme, being overseen by Openreach, is set to be completed at some point tomorrow (May 10) with two-way lights currently running. Their arrival yesterday saw queues in both directions during the evening rush-hour.

Those works are not the only ones to take place on a busy North Staffordshire road.
