PRINCETON — Two caged puppies found abandoned Thursday in a local driveway are now up for adoption.

The Princeton Police Department was looking for information after two puppies were found locked in a cage and abandoned in a driveway off Harrison Street. They had been left there sometime Wednesday evening.

People with information are being asked to contact the Princeton Police Department. Callers can remain anonymous, according to a post from the department.

Director Stacey Harman with the Mercer County Animal Shelter said her facility was housing the two puppies. She said they are mixed breed, healthy and around three to four months old.

Both puppies are up for adoption, she said.

Pet owners abandoning their dogs and cats is a continuing problem. In some cases, pets are dropped off in neighborhoods, alongside a road or simply left behind when their families move away.

"Oh, absolutely," Harman said. "That or they bring them and set them at our door, and they dump them in different, random places."

The animal shelter stays full of homeless dogs and cats, and abandoned pets are "becoming a huge problem," she stated.

Harman said that the shelter's adoption fees have been reduced.

Dogs can now be adopted for $25 and cats for $10. These fees included spay/neutering, rabies vaccinations, first shots and deworming, she said.
