'Absolute Chaos' as Passengers Scramble at Newark Liberty Airport After Sudden Evacuation

Passengers at Newark Liberty International Airport scrambled to find their belongings on Monday, September 2, after a sudden evacuation.

According to social media reports from the airport, a gate agent yelled “evacuate” and passengers at Terminal A-3 Satellite rushed for any exit possible. Dozens of people were seen on the tarmac, waiting for police to arrive.

“Newark update: They’re letting us back in the airport. Absolute chaos. People looking for their things. I’ve never seen anything like this. Terrible. Just terrible,” Erin Fors, who took this video, wrote.

At the time of writing, the Port Authority Police Department had not issued a statement to social media about the incident, and was not reachable by phone by Storyful or USA TODAY.

A tweet from the airport said “it was determined that there was no threat” in the terminal, and all passengers were required to go through additional screening as a precaution. Credit: Erin Fors via Storyful
