Academy students stage mock election to understand political participation

STUDENTS at a Taunton academy staged their own mock election to understand the importance of political participation.

The initiative took place at Monkton Wood Academy, where students had a hands-on experience of politics ahead of the upcoming General Election by staging its own mock election.

A spokesperson for the school said: "This initiative aims to educate and engage students in the democratic process, giving them a deeper understanding of civic responsibilities and the importance of political participation.

"Each day they have spoken to a different house who are acting as our 'constituencies'. The passion and commitment demonstrated by our future leaders have been truly inspiring.

"Next on the agenda, the candidates will go head-to-head at the hustings in preparation for voting on Monday and Tuesday next week.

"We eagerly await the results to see who will emerge victorious."

Rebecca Smith, associate assistant principal at Monkton Wood Academy, said: “We hope this opportunity allows eager students to develop communication skills, confidence and gain political confidence.”
