Actor Ethan Hawke mocked over 'ridiculous' survivor tales

Hollywood star Ethan Hawke has been criticised on Twitter over an interview where he details how he got through attending 11 festivals at Sundance.

In a magazine article entitled "Ethan Hawke on how he survived 11 Sundance fests: 'You have to be strong and humble'", the actor describes how he was once late for a premiere because his car got stuck while doing donuts in the snow.

"At first it was funny," Hawke told Variety, explaining how they got stranded without a mobile phone and had to tear down a fence to arrive at the screening.

Two days after the article was published, Twitter users began sharing the piece, mocking the actor's tone deaf and "ridiculous" tales.

"A grateful nation asks Ethan Hawke to stay strong," one user wrote. "For the struggle must continue."

"He ate weaker actors, like Stephen Dorff, to survive," wrote another.

Others were more creative, coming up with fake war letters which Hawke would have sent from the trenches of Sundance.

"Dearest Martha, the junkets have been relentless," one user wrote.

"Once again, we rose with the sun, and made do with room service. Then it was back into the resort, across enemy lines for fawning interviews. Tell little Ezekiel that papa spoke grandly about his artistic choices."

Other user continued the letter: "My brother in arms Skeeter Ulrich caught a cold in Aspen. There was not enough homeopathic remedy to cure him and he was forced to take Advil Cold & Sinus from a local Rite-Aid.

"These festivals have made savages of men, Martha."

"I do find solace knowing my words may reach you by the time the rhododendrons begin to bloom," wrote a third user on the same thread.

"Here the winter gale is upon us and my kombacha weak, but I am buttressed knowing that my complimentary phone has Netflix pre-loaded with all of my films and the Nobu pop-up opens soon."
