Actress Samantha Morton to launch debut album at Rough Trade

Nottingham actress Samantha Morton is returning to Nottingham – as a singer.

She will be at the city’s Rough Trade record shop at 7pm on Friday, June 14, to sing and sign copies of debut album Daffodils And Dirt.

The record – by Sam Morton, described as a musical duo comprising Samantha and producer/songwriter Richard Russell, founder of XL Records – was created after Richard heard Samantha on Desert Island Discs in 2020. The cover features a vintage picture by photographer Nick Waplington, who documented Nottingham’s Broxtowe Estate when Samantha grew up there in the 1980s.

Samantha reduced viewers to tears in February when she have a moving speech upon winning Bafta’s Fellowship Award.

Tickets start at £12.50 from dice.fm/ and include a copy of the album.
