Adam Driver reflects on the dramatic “Star Wars” scene he'll never live down

It's been eight years and "somebody reminds me about that every day."

Kylo Ren may have been a big proponent of letting the past die, but Adam Driver is revealing the emotional scene that Star Wars fans continue to hang over his head almost a decade later.

The actor, who starred in the latest Star Wars trilogy as the son of Han Solo (Harrison Ford) and Leia Organa (Carrie Fisher), told Chris Wallace that people continue to bring up how his character dramatically killed his father at the end of 2015's The Force Awakens.

“Somebody reminds me about that every day,” he confirmed on Friday’s episode of Max’s Who's Talking to Chris Wallace. When Wallace expressed his surprise, Driver conceded, “Not every day, but yeah. It used to be more but now it's probably once a month somewhere.”

Kylo killing Han was one of the most shocking moments in The Force Awakens, especially since — for a brief moment — it seemed like Han may have been able to wrestle his emotionally conflicted son from the clutches of the First Order. The pair both get a second chance to make things right during the reprise of their conversation in 2019's Rise of Skywalker, which inspires Driver's character to give up his allegiance to the Dark Side.

In the years since, however, Driver himself has received a few pointed remarks about his character’s decision to kill off a beloved icon in real life, including a shout out during Beetlejuice's performance at the 2019 Tony Awards. "Hey, Adam Driver. You killed Han Solo," star Alex Brightman declared mid-song, “Not cool, bro.”

When it came time to film Han’s death, Driver told Wallace that Ford's send-off was no laughing matter on set. “Obviously, John Williams wasn't playing in the background and it was very emotional actually, shooting it with Harrison,” he said. “Harrison was so generous and contemplative and to me that was a great moment on set, actually, even though it was his death.”

Driver previously told GQ in 2017 that he was “sick to my stomach” about witnessing the fan reaction to the scene at The Force Awakens premiere.

"The people behind me, when the scroll started, were like 'Oh my god. Oh my god. It's happening.' Immediately, I thought I was going to puke,” he said at the time. “I was holding my wife's hand, and she's like, 'You're really cold. Are you OK?' Because I just knew what was coming — I kill Harrison — and I didn't know how this audience of 2,000 people was going to respond to it, you know?"
