Adam Rickitt has been holding out for the perfect Hollyoaks role for years.

It was announced last week that Adam - who famously played heartthrob Nick Tilsley in Coronation Street - would be returning to soapland in Hollyoaks as Nancy Osborne's former flame Kyle.

This wasn't actually the first time that Hollyoaks approached Rickitt to make his big soap comeback, as he revealed in this week's issue of OK Magazine.

"I've been speaking to Hollyoaks for years about joining the cast but it's never been the right time," he explained. "When this character came along, I knew it was made for me.

"[Kyle] is unlike anything I've ever played before. He has multiple sclerosis, so it's a great chance to help raise awareness and maybe challenge misconceptions.'"

Adam isn't shy about wanting the high-profile Hollyoaks storyline to introduce him to a brand new generation of soap fans either.

"I get a lot of young girls coming up to me asking for an autograph for their mum," he joked. "Hopefully now I'm on Hollyoaks more young people will know who I am."

Aside from his years in Coronation Street, Rickitt has also popped up in Doctors and the New Zealand soap Shortland Street over the years.

Hollyoaks continues tonight (March 28) at 6.30pm on Channel 4.
