Adam Thomas laughs off huge blunder on wife's birthday as she pays tribute to their 'first baby'

Adam Thomas was able to see the funny side when he wife's birthday celebrations were slightly derailed by a blunder on both of their parts. The actor was helping Caroline celebrate her special day on Tuesday (April 23) and they headed out with no worries.

But later, they both realised what they had done and with their children - Teddy and Elsie - back from school, they had a predicament on their hands. Taking to his Instagram Story, Adam, 35, explained: "So, had a really nice day today, took the wife out...

"Come back to the house and..." before Adam could finish his sentence, little Elsie shouted: "We've got no keys!" Adam and Caroline laughed as Adam continued: "So we're locked out... Happy Birthday! You said you wanted a surprise for your birthday, this was it... Now we're waiting for a locksmith."

The video then ended with Adam performing a rendition of 'Happy Birthday' for the birthday girl as they waited. But it seemed the celebrations weren't ruined as Caroline was later seen being presented with an adorable animal-shaped cake as Adam, his brothers Ryan and Scott, her mother-in-law Gail as well as her family and children all sang to her after a big family dinner.

Meanwhile, Caroline took to her own Instagram Story to mark another special part of her day. Sharing a picture of their beloved pet dog, Bella, donning a party hat, she said: "11 years ago today @adamthomas21 gave me the best birthday surprise [dog emoji]. Our first baby has been with us through it all."

It comes after Adam was seen cuddling up to his children in an adorable snap after making an admission amid his health struggle. The Waterloo Road star is often open and honest with his fans and followers about his journey following an arthritis diagnosis.

Adam first opened up about his arthritis diagnosis last year after he was revealed to be taking part in Strictly Come Dancing 2023. He shared at the time how he'd been told he had rheumatoid arthritis but he has since told how his initial diagnosis has been changed, saying in January on Loose Women that he's got Psoriatic arthritis.

He had continued to openly document his pain battle and in his latest post, Adam, 35, shared a mixed update as he spoke about not having the best week but couldn't fault his kids - Teddy and Elsie - for their support. Taking to Instagram, the photo showed the two youngsters with their arms wrapped around their dad as he appeared smiling in the middle in what could be described as a bit of a hug sandwich.

Captioning the post, Adam, who plays Donte Charles in Waterloo Road, admitted: "Not been the best this week … but nothing a cuddle from these two can’t sort out." After a period of social media silence, the Manchester-born star then added: "Just checking in and hope everyone’s ok … have a great week people xx."
