The long-rumoured animated reboot of The Addams Family is back on, and Oscar Isaac is in talks to play Gomez Addams.

Hot on the heels of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Isaac is apparently in negotiations with MGM to play the Addams patriarch, The Tracking Board reports.

It notes that loads of you all over that internet have wanted him in the role because of his close resemblance to Gomez in all his forms, not least when played by Raul Julia.

Julia was Gomez Addams in the cult classic 1991 live action adaptation of the The Addams Family, and its even cultier, more classic 1993 sequel Addams Family Values. Julia sadly died in 1994.

Tim Burton was attached to a stop-motion 3D version of the movie way back in 2010 which stalled, before plans for a new animated reboot were confirmed by MGM in 2013.

There is still a Burton link, with the screenplay coming from Pamela Pettler, who worked with Burton on 2005's Corpse Bride. Sausage Party's Conrad Vernon is directing.

It's claimed that MGM wants to get the deal with Isaac confirmed before looking to cast the rest of the Family.

The Addams Family was originally a single panel cartoon series by Charles Addams, which were published in The New Yorker between 1938 and Addams's death in 1988.

ABC later produced a sitcom version from 1964 to 1966, spawning other TV shows, those live-action movies from the 1990s and even a Broadway musical.
