Line of Duty star Adrian Dunbar says he and his fellow castmates would "love to be back in Belfast again" to film another series of the hit BBC crime drama.

The Enniskillen man plays Superintendent Ted Hastings in the BBC police drama for over a decade but has previously admitted that he and all of his castmates want to return for a seventh series.

Created by Jed Mercurio, the show last appeared on screens in May 2021 with Ted Hastings and his team uncovering the identity of the 'Fourth Man' and derailing corruption from within the force.

The cast members have hinted at a possible return by updating their WhatsApp group chat about the show, suggesting a new season could be on the cards. However, the show's bosses have yet to comment on the possibility, three years after the last gripping series aired.

Speaking on ITV's This Morning Show on Friday to promote his latest West End role in Kiss Me, Kate, the Co Fermanagh star teased how he would soon be reunited with his r Line of Duty castmates Vicky McClure and Martin Compton.

He told presenters Alison Hammond and Josie Gibson: "They're coming on opening night and we're going to block the street. We're still supporting each other."

When asked about the possibility of a seventh series, Dunbar added: "I can neither confirm nor deny. We all want it to happen obviously so we're all keeping our fingers crossed. Me, Vicky and Martin really would love to be back in Belfast again doing another series. We'll just have to wait and see."

Last month, Dunbar said he wants to see a comeback of the hit BBC crime drama before he gets any older, telling The Times: "We all want it to come back. It’s apposite that today should be their [castmates Vicky McClure and Martin Compton's shared] birthdays because I really don’t want them getting any older.

"I don’t want to get any older either because we don’t want to be coming back when we’re in a wheelchair. 'Ted Hastings with a Zimmer frame."

The actor also said his latest role in Kiss Me, Kate at London’s Barbican Theatre was a tribute to his late mother, Pauline, who died in December 2021. Just two months earlier, the star dedicated his GQ Television Actor of the Year award to the 89-year-old, who had then just recovered from coronavirus.

He said: "My mother was a great soprano, loved the musicals and did all the Gilbert and Sullivan stuff. In many respects it's kind of a tribute to her doing this because Kiss Me, Kate was probably her favourite musical. I know when my sisters come across, they're going to be very moved by it all. It'll be lovely."
