The adventure park with miniature railway next to UK's longest beach that's the perfect day out
If you’re looking for a perfect day out from Kent that children will love, this place is ideal. Overlooking the beach, Mewsbrook Park, in Littlehampton boasts incredible views, and four hectares to explore.
At the park, which is just over an hour away from Kent, has an adorable miniature railway which dates back to the early 1950s, when the attraction first opened. It’s got real diesel-powered trains, and locomotives that produce steam, one blue train called Sherpa, looks like Thomas the Tank Engine. THe railway is staffed entirely by volunteers. But back in Mewsbrook Park. which is free to visit, there is a large lake in the centre of the park which offers cute pedalos which can be rented out. It shuts during the winter, and reopens in springtime, however it is worth checking the Facebook page before heading out as use of boats is determined by weather conditions.

Mewsbrook Park Cafe offers afternoon teas, big breakfasts and impressive cakes. Prices are reasonable, with the afternoon tea costing just £17 per person including fresh sandwiches, cakes and scones with English breakfast tea.
The cafe has some great reviews via Google, one customer wrote: “A wonderful cafe in a great location and with the added bonus of excellent food and service. We are so glad to have found somewhere where we can enjoy a well presented cafe with piping hot food and coffee to enjoy. Well done to the staff.”
Lined by the beach, Littlehampton is a resort town with the River Arun running next to it. The river meets the sea at Littlehampton, and the marina is located further up from the river mouth. The mile long sand and shingle beach at Littlehampton is everything you would expect from a long established seaside resort.
It is a well maintained seafront gardens and even the UK’s longest bench - a 1,000 feet long bench running along Littlehampton’s seafront. It is also patrolled by RNLI Lifeguards during the summer months and a Kidcare wristband scheme operates to make the beach super safe for families.
There’s also a huge indoor leisure centre in the area, called Out of Bounds which is a huge leisure centre with adventure climbing, bowling, jumping pillows and soft play. There’s also laser tag and adventure golf.
How to get there
Depending on where you are travelling from in Kent, most likely you will take either the A27 or A280. The park is around 1 hour and 20 minutes from Edenbridge, Kent.
Car parking at Mewsbrook includes disabled spaces and a height restriction of two metres. It's open from 8am to 8pm and costs £2.20 for two hours, £4.40 for four hours and £11 for all day, you can pay via cash, card or RingGo.

The leisure centre, Out of Bounds can be found by Ham Manor Golf Club just off of the A259 in Littlehampton. It’s got free parking and disabled spaces, and fully automated doors.
For access to a handful of indoor activities, tickets cost £34 each including adventure nets, golf, bowling and clip and climb. Check the website here for more information and individual ticket prices.
The beachside amusements can be found on the edge of East Beach, overlooking the mouth of the river. An unlimited-day ticket costs between £19 and £23 for children and can be booked here. Parking can be found nearby, there is also free on street parking within 50 to 100 metres from the beach.
