The hunt for the missing teenager Jay Slater has intensified, with a former top detective from Scotland Yard raising concerns over the Spanish police's handling of the case, particularly their investigation of the Airbnb where the British youth was last seen. Graham Wettone, a retired Metropolitan Police officer with three decades of experience, has called on the Spanish authorities to collaborate with British law enforcement, highlighting the significance of the remote £40-a-night Airbnb.

This is the location to which Jay was reportedly taken by two British individuals after an afterparty at the Playa de las Americas resort. Since vanishing on June 17 following a three-day music event, Jay's whereabouts remain unknown, and Graham suspects that something "very bizarre" has happened. Details about the two Brits, said to be in their late 30s to early 40s, are scarce.

Despite Spanish investigators dismissing these men as "irrelevant" to their inquiries, Graham, speaking to MailOnline, expressed his intrigue: "I've been following this case closely and discussing it with colleagues and it's certainly a very bizarre one, lots of things just don't add up."

He also mentioned that the Lancashire police's offer to assist should be taken up by local authorities, reports the Mirror. Furthermore, he suggested: "I'm sure the Spanish police kept their details and if need be can go back to them and investigate them with the help of British police."

He concluded by saying, "I know people are saying these two should have been kept but unless there is any real incriminating evidence it would be hard to keep them in Spain."

"That's why I would start again from the beginning and speak to all the witnesses again, my gut feeling is that many of them may not be telling the truth. I would hope that they have at least secured the Airbnb because if evidence is there then it will need to be gathered."

This heartfelt plea suggests restarting their search for the missing 19-year-old from Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire, who hasn't been heard from since his phone call with friend Lucy Law on a Tuesday morning. The young bricklayer apprentice mentioned during the call that he was trying to get home on foot and that his phone was nearing the end of its charge.

The two-week search surrounding the last known location of his mobile device ended on Wednesday due to insufficient evidence.

Isla Traquair, a crime reporter, explained in her report: "The two men that he went to go and stay with, they had met them three days before. They hung out with them, they made friends on holiday. It wasn't two random people he'd met that night. They'd established a friendship and Brad said they seemed like really cool guys."
