Ajax vs Rangers pre season friendly revealed as Dutch giants added to Philippe Clement's summer plans

Rangers are set to play Dutch giants Ajax in a pre season friendly.

The sides met in the Champions League a couple of seasons ago when Giovannni van Bronckhorst was in charge at Ibrox. The Light Blues were hammered 4-0 in the game in Amsterdam with a 3-1 defeat in Glasgow sealing Rangers' status as the worst ever performers in group stage history of UEFA's premier competition.

Rangers had already revealed their pre-season plans which included a training camp in the Netherlands but a match against Ajax hadn't been included in the itinerary. Now it has been reported the sides will meet on Saturday, July 13 at the home of WHC in Wezep, with the match kicking off at 3pm UK time. Ajax finished a disappointing fifth in the table last season and have recently appointed Italian Francesco Farioli, heavily linked with Celtic before Brendan Rodgers was appointed.

Rangers travel to Holland for a training camp on July 7, with the players reporting back to training on June 24. Rangers will also face English outfit Birmingham City in a memorial match for Trevor Francis as part of their pre-season preparations with the Ibrox side taking on German Bundesliga side Union Berlin as well.

Record Sport exclusively revealed last month that Rangers were being lined up for a trip to St Andrews with Birmingham City keen to arrange a fixture against one of Francis’ former clubs following his passing last year. The game takes place on the first anniversary of his death, July 24, with the game at St Andrew’s kicking off at 7.45pm.

Rangers then face Union Berlin in the German capital three days later with a 5pm kick-off local time. The Germans competed in the Champions League last season and the game, just a week ahead of the big Scottish Premiership kick off, takes place in the Stadion An deal Alten Forsterei. The two games are added to the glamour friendly against Manchester United at Murrayfield on Saturday, July 20.
