Alan Carr recovering after collapsing on stage

Alan Carr is recovering after collapsing on stage during a gig in Glasgow.

The collapse was caused by a shooting pain in the comedian's leg and he finished the performance supported by crutches.

Some fans in the audience thought the collapse was part of the act but he said on Instagram that the fall was legitimate: "I've been performing up in Glasgow and there's a bit in my routine where I pretend to be Jason Statham and I high-kicked, and then I got the worst cramp ever."

Carr added: "Oh my God! It was shooting pains and I was rolling around on the floor, and people thought it was part of the act."

He went on to reassure fans that he was 'fine' but felt 'silly' falling over in front of his fans.

In the video posted to his Instagram, Carr said his tour manager pushed a crutch through the curtain onto the stage so he could finish the show standing.

He also said he had taken pain relief and was feeling 'healed'.

Carr concluded by saying: "I've never felt pain like it, but I will solider on as I always do."

Following the fall, a number of Carr's contemporaries reached out to him on social media.

John Bishop said to Carr: "What a trooper - you are an example to us."

Vanessa Feltz also wrote: "Worried about you. Should you be checked out by a GP or at A&E just to be sure?"

The on stage collapse comes as Carr says he is dealing with a "rubbish year" after previously announcing his separation from husband Paul Drayton.

Carr has previously discussed how his marriage ending has informed his comedy: "During Covid, the relationship fell apart, and I was divorced when we came out the other end. So it's probably my most personal [tour], but it sort of works and it's quite raw and I go to places that I don't normally talk about. It's like therapy really."
